Lesson 1: Overview

Child protection in sport and recreation starts with setting up an environment and administrative system that will allow children (anyone under 18) to remain safe from abuse, and protected from any individual who wishes to exploit or harm them.

The information in this course is not intended as a substitute for legal or other professional advice.

The content of this training material is about children and families affected by child abuse.

You may experience a range of emotions, including sadness or discomfort, as you view some of the case studies. This can be experienced at a personal level on behalf of children and families in this situation generally, or on behalf of children and families you know.

If the content triggers an emotional response that you are unable to deal with, it is important to get support (e.g., from your partner, supervisor or colleagues).
